The Diagnostic and Research Institute of Human Genetics is part of the Diagnostik- & Diagnostic and Research Center of Molecular BioMedicine. Our institute has essential responsibilities in patient care, research and teaching. In our Genetic Counseling Center, we provide comprehensive genetic counseling and diagnostics for individuals with hereditary diseases. In our ISO 15189 accredited labs, diagnostics are conducted by highly competent medical professionals in accordance with international guidelines. Additional consultations are available at the clinics of University Hospital Graz, Barmherzige Brüder (Brothers of Mercy) Hospital Graz, Leoben State Hospital and Oberpullendorf Hospital.
In addition, we have been providing information on questions relating to medication use during pregnancy and possible harmful external influences on prenatal human development for many years. This teratological counseling is based on the fundamental principles of ENTIS through our membership in the European Network of Teratology Information Services (ENTIS).
Our research focus is on rare disorders, hereditary cancers, precision medicine and liquid biopsy, which examines the blood to monitor disease progression.
We teach human genetics to Med Uni Graz students. We train physicians in medical genetics and offer a wide range of courses for natural scientists.
